Continuity with pre-history

Progress in science (the god of the pathway to learning in the Western world in recent times) is generally triggered by the speculative thinkers in each of the academic disciplines. These are the lamp-lighters for those who want to know about our Universe (even a multi-verse Cosmos) and why it is all so; as well as our place in it , and what we seem to be (apart from stardust).

Since the capacity to speculate freely is unlimited, by time, space and even theology (in both religion and the prevailing explanatory paradigms of the various disciplines of knowledge-seeking), a range of possible doorways to knowledge can be theorised; these may lead to pathways of probable relevance.

However, is there a man-made constraint about accepting continuity through historical time? I instance the continuity of learning; and thereby to the apparent continuity of civilisational features through time – through now extinct civilisations.

In the light of the precise geometry of construction and the accuracy of the geodesic placements of the pyramids of the ancient Egyptians, it would be fatuous to believe that late-arrival Greeks discovered geometry. Earth’s positions against the constellations of the zodiac at a particular period of time, and the alignment of our planets in that period as evidenced, or linked in ancient mythology, may assist in dating the construction of the Pyramids and the Sphinx more accurately; as well as certain events mentioned in the Veda’s of Hinduism.

The history of mankind seems to go far beyond 3,000 BC, long before the cultural ancestors of Europeans (Greece) and their religious ancestors (the Israelites) could make any kind of impact.

Our current civilisation seems to date from about 13,000 BC, after the abatement of the Universal Deluge, with its almost total destruction of everything on Earth. That Quetzalcoatl and Viracocha should arrive in oar-less boats in Central and South America suggests the survival of pockets of an earlier (pre-Flood) civilisation of high achievements.

Let us not try to sound clever by muttering ‘Where’s the evidence?’ Modern day speculative cosmologists like Einstein do not seem to have been challenged about their lack of evidence.

So-called Caucasians in Central Asia in an early historical period; skeletons of tall (up to an estimated 12 feet) humans in North America; ‘African’ heads in Central America; ‘black’ people in China; clearly brown people in Taiwan (now in Polynesia); constructions such as Nan Madol and other massive stone buildings in various parts of the globe, components of which cannot be moved by modern equipment; mind-over-body, and other psychic phenomena, exhibited in diverse parts of the globe; ‘thumbnail’ and other psychic or spiritual healers; artefacts displaying high technology having been dug up from great depths; and so on! There is so much we cannot explain.

Are we then in a position to deny the probability of the existence of advanced civilisations on Earth in so-called pre-history? Nature, in conjunction with huge space-objects and powerful electromagnetic flows of cosmic rays and particles is able to bury or drown whole human civilisations now and then. Large segments of the continents, such as Fennoscandia, are now under water.

Just as reincarnation can enable the continuity of souls through time, via a succession of Earthly lives, so the memories contained in mythology and some artefacts of humanity may indicate the continuity of human civilisations over vast swathes of time.

Pre-history readable through the zodiac?

I have had real-life experiences to convince me that horoscope reading by experienced Indian astrologers, based on the minute of birth (and its geographic location) enable probabilistic conclusions about a broad view of an individual’s future. However, I am not persuaded that horoscope reading in Western nations like Australia, based on one of the 12 constellations of the zodiac, are reliable. Projected personalities do not match real-life personalities.

Paul LaViolette, a multi-disciplinary scientist and mythologist suggests that the sequence of cosmic ‘houses’ on the zodiac are not in their proper relationship positions.

Nevertheless, does the zodiac as we know it enable us to read pre-history? This is a crucial question. For instance, it appears that the Sphinx in Egypt had a lion’s head originally. Could it have been constructed in the zodiac Age of the Lion? If so, would we now have a date (within a span of 2,160 years for each Age) for its origin? It could be 8,000 BC to 10,000 BC.

I remember reading that a description of a cosmic event in Hinduism’s Vedas (whose oral origin is asserted as before time as we know it) had been dated at about 8,000 BC. Or, could the associated constellation of the zodiac (the ‘house’ against which the sun rises for 2,160 years each time) refer to the previous zodiac cycle 25,920 years before? Why not indeed! Do we know enough to reject this probability?

In the event, could we then focus on the culture or civilisation which produced the Sphinx? In the light of the very limited technology available in that period to mankind, as claimed by the protectors of the current explanatory paradigm,  could we contemplate the probability of extraterrestrial assistance? This may have come from a watery planet from the 3-star Sirius complex – because a moat apparently surrounded the Sphinx originally.

Or, were our then human ancestors so highly civilised and technologically advanced as to be able to cut, lift, shape, and place the huge and heavy stones (the megaliths) – which we are yet unable to handle.

Thus, we have an interesting choice: extraterrestrial involvement or highly civilised and technologically superior human ancestors. While neither seems credible, a choice has to be made.

As to whether the zodiac placed at the ecliptic enables human pre-history to be read depends on what the zodiac actually means, who conceived it, and why it seems to be embedded in a number of cultures of the past. Apart from the link with the precession of Earth, and the apparent usefulness of knowing when to expect the equinoxes and solstices (for agricultural or spiritual purposes?), what does the zodiac tell us? The next probable cosmic catastrophe?

The question of credibility

I asked in a recent post whether the scenario I painted of Earth having been tilted (to about 45%) about 13,000 years ago is credible (ie. plausible). This tilt seemingly caused the great Universal Deluge, attested by so many cultures throughout the globe. This Flood destroyed most of Earth and its population, with a new civilisation commencing about 8,000 to 10,000 years ago.

There is no denying the Flood, or when it happened. Did a tilt of Earth cause it, and the sudden end of the so-called ice age? Ice ages do not end suddenly.

Further, did Earth’s Golden Age, reported by ever so many cultures, end then? How explain this Golden Age? Did not this Age enjoy equable temperatures throughout the year? How could that happen today? Then, why did Siberia and Antarctica suddenly become frozen?

Is the scenario I postulated by calling upon sundry scientific researchers credible? What responses did I expect?

The science-oriented sceptic would ask: Where is the evidence? Yet, in the realm of science, how many speculative unproven hypotheses masquerade as facts? I instance the Big Bang Theory of cosmology; Darwin’s Theory of Evolution; and Punctuated Equilibrium (seeking to explain the appearance of fully-formed new or modified species). There is a more plausible alternative explanation available for each of these.

Another category of sceptic includes: those who claim (without proof) that our current civilisation is the most advanced ever (let us then ignore the great monoliths which we cannot explain or replicate); and those who claim to be the Chosen People or the Nation of Exceptionalism (how nice!).

The third category denying plausibility, much less probability, includes those who respond immediately thus: “I don’t believe it”; when the question is simply “Is this scenario plausible?” I am not sure if any of us is competent to go beyond plausibility. Then there are those who want to argue about the scenario, based on what they consider to be ‘first principles.’ But do look at how far religious, or even scientific, dogma has taken us in understanding human origins, our place in the Cosmos, and the origin and nature of the Cosmos.

If we want to know, we need to open our minds. Consider how many Ages (Suns) have been destroyed (according to the Mayans). From another framework, are we on the way to the Sixth Extinction (while murmuring ‘That could not have happened’)?

When Earth was rolled over

Was Earth rolled over relatively recently?  Was it tilted to about 45% about 13,000 years ago?  My reasons for suggesting that it was are as follows:

  • During my boyhood (a very long time go) I was told that Siberia had been a warm and luscious tropical region; and that, at the onset and prevalence of frigid conditions, the people there had migrated to Central Asia, creating a great civilisation there
  • Antarctica has been described (without credible challenge) as having once been in the tropic/temperate zone
  • Evidence has been found of stone buildings in the Arctic, now covered by ice (which is fast melting)
  • There was a massive world-wide flood, the Universal Flood (about 13,000 years ago), referred to in so many folk beliefs all across the globe; and this had buried an incredible mix of humans, animals, and flora – and silt – in caves all the way north
  • A very large ‘chunk’ of solid space material is believed to have been blown out into space through a supernova explosion; and that this material had entered and travelled through our solar system
  • This gigantic space material had caused perturbations in this system, dislodging satellites, destroying a planet, reversing the spin of one of our planets, etc., etc
  • The gravitational pull of this space material (named Vela by two researcher/authors) could have pulled Earth, through gravity, to rotate in the direction of the transit of Vela (to the sun)
  • The lands in the east would have been moved closer to the north pole, and the lands in the west would have been moved to the south pole
  • Such a strong gravitational pull would have emptied the seas, causing the moving waters to rise very high indeed, and to flow in the direction of the assumed Vela
  • When Vela had moved to its ultimate absorption by the sun, Earth would have naturally remained in its new position
  • Earth’s planets, believed to have been aligned East/West before the arrival of this space material, would now be aligned North/South (as they are today), with Siberia and Antarctica now in frigid conditions
  • Released from Vela’s gravity, the waters of Earth would have flowed back gradually, filling all the spaces available
  • The sudden onset of extreme cold in Siberia, which spot-froze all the animals, and the re-location of Antarctica, can thus be explained.

Cultures everywhere refer to a Universal Flood. It is not for us to know better; or to ask for ‘scientific’ evidence for possible causes and outcomes. We have yet to come up with adequate explanations which suit our theories of how things should have been.

Neither plate tectonics nor crustal slippage (the moving orange-peel effect) offer an explanation of the known disruptions mentioned above. Cosmic catastrophes of a horrifying magnitude seem to be taboo.

Avoiding any attribution to cosmic catastrophes as contributing to such developments as the sudden arrival of fully-formed new or modified species on Earth; of the onset of artistic creativity in known historic ‘cave-men’; of the sudden flowering of conceptual capacities of Early Man; of the whitening of human skin in a band (from East to West) in the northern hemisphere; in the ‘sky falling’ and ‘the stars being scrambled’; the sun not moving for many days (ask the Chinese and the Meso-americans); and so on, is not likely to lead us to understand the long-term history of mankind.

Having Earth tilt would have effectively destroyed the then civilisation. The survivors (Quetzalcoatl and Viracocha, for example), possibly reflecting a high culture prevailing in the pre-Flood era, could have guided mankind as best as possible, calling upon the knowledge, skills, tools and technology which survived the Deluge. Refer Meso-american and Peruvian beliefs.

That there had been a Golden Age prior to the Deluge all over the globe is credible, were it accepted that the continents had previously been lying east to west. Most, if not all, human-occupied terrain would then have been in the temperate and tropical zones!

That Earth was rolled over and tilted recently seems credible. Do we need an Edgar C. Cayce to tell us what happened?

The relationship between the material and ethereal realms

Here is a commentary to a presentation on the RN ABC Radio program titled ‘The Posthuman,’ of 4 Dec. 2016

Modern quantum physics tells us that everything is light, that all of reality – every person, every object, every iota of space and time – is nothing but waves in an ocean of light.
But what quantum science does not tell us is that this light is not merely an impersonal force or a mass of energy but that it is Conscious, that it is alive. That everything is a modification of Conscious Light.

So called “matter” is therefore a stepped down modification of infinitely radiant Conscious Light. The “material” universe is thus a present expression of light. Matter is light; matter, or the total realm of nature, emanates presently from the Matrix of Light.

The physical universe is actually a speck floating in an indefinable Realm of Light-Energy.

Then what does this imply about our understanding and application of biochemistry, biophysics, human anatomy, human life, human culture?
What will we do when we take the discovery of the relationship between matter and energy (or light) seriously?

How do we make medicine out of the understanding that the human body is a complex system of energy? How do we practice ordinary diet, sexuality, and social relations on that basis. How do we bring this higher knowledge of quantum physics into the daily practice of ordinary people?”

My understanding of  Paramahansa Yogananda’s concept of the Cosmos is that is all light. Then there is the prevailing concept that all material existence in the Cosmos emanates from an ‘Ocean’ of Consciousness’; and that Consciousness is ever-existing, and permeates everything, both created and uncreated. Is quantum physics confirming Hinduism’s explanatory framework?

While human beings may or may not have any meaning (from vermin to modified chimp on its way to a higher level of Man with a spiritually-directed brain), the Cosmos seems a place worth investigating with our ‘third eyes.’

 

 

 

 

 

Human contacts with spirits (1)

“Come in,” said he, “I have the spirit of your uncle with me.” I did not know how to respond to that greeting. Indeed, for the next hour, I had little to say; I was totally out of my depth.

I had traveled interstate to meet a clairvoyant who had been recommended to me. Why did I want to meet a clairvoyant? To find out what clairvoyants do, and how they go about it. Why? Because I was now researching psychic phenomena, having previously – over about 3 years (early in my retirement) – read about what (a) scientists and (b) the major religions were telling us about the Cosmos and the place of mankind in it.

As an aside, I am impressed with the fact that only Hinduism offers any thoughts (including a cosmology) on this core question. I am also intrigued that eminent speculative Western cosmologists of modern times had expressed their thoughts in phraseology which resonated with the vistas and concepts provided by their distant Hindu counterparts.

In the preceding 40 years I had been sampling religion (and the major religions) through my reading, as well as e.s.p. (extra-sensory perception). As e.s.p. is not supported by the scientific method, it has little credibility in the realms of science. Having studied the scientific method during my training in psychology, I do understand its limitations. I now sought to find out how clairvoyants, psychic healers, and those who are able to read the future go about their work.

Initially, I had not expected to be involved or affected by what I hoped to learn. I have an open mind, in spite my experience in my youth in Malaya (now Malaysia and Singapore). Amidst those who one would kindly refer to as opportunists, there were a few who read the future accurately, and achieved cures as spiritual healers. But I had not heard of anyone who had been presented with a spirit, especially of a close, much-respected relative.

I had, of course, heard about an occasional kampong Malay ‘running amok,’ having seen a ‘hantu,’ a ghost. There were also reliable reports of mature Westernised non-Malay adults seeing, in recent times, the spirit of one who had died by accident on a road, and who seemingly had not left the site.

In real life, an event, however improbable or esoteric, personally experienced by a rational, even slightly sceptical adult, has to be accepted as a real experience. Such psychic experiences cannot, of course, be proven by those affected to those individuals who just know better. Neither can such an experience be disproven in any substantive sense. A simple denial would be irrelevant.

It is worthwhile examining such real experiences of contacts with the spirit realm to understand how the material sphere interacts with the ephemeral sphere. Both spheres are manifestations of a complex Cosmos.

Quaint concepts: The ‘fabric’ of space and ‘dimensions’

When the Hubble Telescope reported that galaxies (of solar systems, of those stars on fire clustered together as they spin in space) as moving away from one another into infinite space, the layman on Earth was offered an explanation – by analogy. This reported movement of galaxies was comparable to spots on a balloon moving away from one another as the balloon is being blown up. The image of a fabric pertaining to space was now in vogue.

This, instead, was confusing. Space is infinite, not bound by a skin of any kind. The concept of a fabric surrounding space makes no sense.

We were then offered space-time. That does not make sense either. Is time comparable to aether or Consciousness? How so? Is time any more than a measure of events as they occur? Is future time any more then an indication of events to occur? When my initial clairvoyant foresaw an event 12 years ahead (of me addressing a large number of students at a university), did that indicate anything about the nature of time?

An attempt to demonstrate gravity displayed what looked like a mesh (a fabric) with a dip in it; space-time is apparently ‘deformed’ by gravity. The language of mathematics must, however, be more explicitly clear.

Then some speculative cosmologists wrote about the possibility of more than one universe (the ‘multiverse’) in existence, with ‘worm holes’ connecting them; a diagrammatic representation was of a series of ‘balloons’ adjacent to one another.

My reaction is: could not another universe co-exist, perhaps be inter-twined, with our universe, while yet remaining separate in terms of its composition, structure, and operation?

One might therefore conceive reality as composed of more than one dimension. Theories of the structure of the universe include one which postulates about 11 dimensions, most of which are assumed to be rolled into a small apace (so goes the theory I read). These dimensions begin with the three we are all familiar with.

However, there is another concept of dimension. An example is the Afterlife, the temporary residence between Earthly lives. (Although I expect to be there soon, I will not be able to talk about it when I am next embodied; a great pity.)

This dimension would need to be self-contained and self-sufficient, thereby independent of the dimension occupied by us, and yet be related to it. My feeling, based on interactions with spirits, is that this dimension is also here; that is, with us. This would enable certain spirits to reach us; and a few humans enabled to communicate with occupants of this realm.

With no boundaries, no ‘fabric’ of any kind involved, a member of such ‘dimensions’ may co-exist in infinite space, depending upon their functions and related structures. Ethereal links may enable co-existence – even within the same sector of space.

 

Psychic experiences are real

The following extracts have been taken from the website ‘Wake up world.’ The article is by Phillip J Watt titled ‘Parapsychology: How science is proving that psychic experiences are real’

“ … … we experience extraordinary feats of consciousness and extra-sensory perception (ESP) which blow our minds and hearts out of this world, with profound and ongoing impacts in our lives.

These feats may occur in many different guises and in a very personal way. Some believe these experiences to be genuinely extraordinary, whilst others explain them away as ‘coincidence’ or ‘figments of the imagination’. Regardless of our personal beliefs, unexplained occurrences and psychic phenomena such as extra-sensory reception, telepathy and even psychokinesis have been recorded throughout the history of all tribal and traditional civilizations, so it’s not just a modern marvel. What is fresh about this phenomenon is the development of a discipline called ‘Parapsychology’, which is essentially a scientific framework designed to study the ‘psi’ or ‘psychic’ experiences of humanity.” … …

“The reason psi phenomenon is not taken seriously by the academic community is because philosophical materialism – which is the unproven and dogmatic ‘belief’ that matter is the fundamental stuff of reality – has hijacked modern-day science. Essentially, this misplaced interpretation of a strictly mechanical universe is the model upon which any accumulating evidence is compared, and if certain data doesn’t fit into the limited paradigm of what science already understands, it is arrogantly and unscientifically rejected and explained away as pseudoscience.

Ironically, this prejudicial dismissal of evidence is itself the definition of pseudoscientific behaviour.

However, not all scientists have fallen victim to the materialist rhetoric. For example, in 2014 a team of over 100 prominent scientists and academics from around the world called for an open, informed study of all aspects of consciousness. These scientists included Daryl Bem (Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Cornell University), Irving Kirsch (Professor of Psychology, University of Plymouth, and Lecturer in Medicine, Harvard Medical School) and Brian Josephson (Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of Cambridge, who is also a Nobel Prize winner for his work in the field of physics). Another example in the same year was the creation of a “Manifesto for a Post-Materialist Science … to visualize what an emerging scientific view may look like”. The Manifesto was developed by eight respected scientists, including Rupert Sheldrake, a biologist and author best known for his theory of morphic fields and morphic resonance. Simply, both groups of scientists have called upon the scientific community to face their hypocrisy and transcend their philosophical bias toward the science of psi phenomenon.”

“ … … Notably, despite the stance of materialistic science, extra-sensory perceptions are not considered to be pseudoscience by the majority of average people. In a 2002 CBS News poll, 57% of people surveyed believed ESP to be real.

The reality is that parapsychological studies have accumulated mountains of sound scientific data that provides strong evidence for ‘extra sensory’ perceptions of the human mind. As stated in the Manifesto for a Post-Materialist Science :

Studies of the so-called “psi phenomena” indicate that we can sometimes receive meaningful information without the use of ordinary senses, and in ways that transcend the habitual space and time constraints. Furthermore, psi research demonstrates that we can mentally influence — at a distance — physical devices and living organisms (including other human beings). Psi research also shows that distant minds may behave in ways that are nonlocally correlated, i.e., the correlations between distant minds are hypothesized to be unmediated (they are not linked to any known energetic signal), unmitigated (they do not degrade with increasing distance), and immediate (they appear to be simultaneous). These events are so common that they cannot be viewed as anomalous or as exceptions to natural laws, but as indications of the need for a broader explanatory framework that cannot be predicated exclusively on materialism.”

(Comment: At last! Open scientific minds! My personal experiences need explanation as to how they occurred. There is a whole universe of the immaterial to be investigated, and understood.

At the very end of the psi phenomena is my question – How does my core me, my true and inner me, my soul, convey my past experiences to the current me with my form and substance?  If it is not Consciousness, what is it?

If it is Consciousness, then there must be the equivalent of the ‘worm holes,’ which cosmologists refer to optimistically, available to us – somehow, some time!)

Academic researchers were curious to see if the scientific method could be used to find evidence for life after death, and they were open to that possibility that it could. J.B. Rhine was a scientist, and he was willing to give it a try. So Duke’s administrators, like President William Preston Few, were willing to let him.

How did Rhine begin trying to prove this?

Basically, Rhine said we know that when we die, the body dies, the body decays, it’s over. We need to find something about ourselves that exists independently of the body. Otherwise, when we die, that’s it. So if telepathy operates independent of the body, it opens the door to a possibility that there is something within us that can survive death.

What kinds of experiments did he perform while searching for the existence of telepathy?

He started with a test of simple playing cards. He began with children, but then moved on to Duke students. It was basically a simple test: “Can you tell me what playing card I’m holding?” without seeing it. And he found that they could.

He was using a regular deck of playing cards, and he found that people had certain biases—they would guess certain cards more often than others because they were very familiar with a regular deck. So he had a psychologist, Karl Zener, design him a set of cards with completely different symbols. And these are the ESP cards that a lot of people are familiar with, the ones with the wavy lines, a star, a box, a circle, or a cross. Using these cards, he repeated the test with students and found that they were again able to tell him what symbol was on the cards without seeing them.

What other experiments did Rhine and his colleagues conduct?

The ESP cards really were their staple until the end. They refined the experiments over the years—first, they separated the student and the experimenter with a screen. Ultimately, they were in separate rooms, and the tests were done double blind, so that even the person conducting the experiment didn’t know what symbols were on the cards.

The other experiments that they’re known for are tests in psychokinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind. Again, the test that they used was a very simple one—rolling dice. They would see if the students could influence the roll of the dice. The experimenters would use their hands and throw the dice against the wall, but, later on, they were using machines to roll the dice, so it would be more random and the experimenter could not be accused of influencing the roll.

And they found, again, that the students did seem to have some ability to influence the roll of the dice, but the effect was a lot weaker. It’s not like somebody can go to Las Vegas and win a billion dollars with this ability. It was infinitesimally small.

What did Rhine credit these effects to?

Rhine always felt that ESP was something that operated independently from the physical body. He also thought that someday the answer would be found in the study of consciousness and that when we had a better idea of how consciousness worked, or even what it is, it would explain the effects that he found in his experiments.

And Rhine became a household name?

Well, it’s interesting. Rhine is often portrayed as a publicity hound, but he really wasn’t. In the beginning, he turned down a lot of interviews because he saw himself as a serious scientist and an academic, and he thought this kind of publicity was undignified. And so he would say yes to some but not to anything that he didn’t think was serious.

But from the minute they [Rhine and his wife and co-researcher, Louisa] published their first book, Extra-Sensory Perception [in 1934], there was hostility to their experiments from the scientific community. So he started to agree to more interviews than he had originally, mostly just to get the word out that he was in fact doing serious science, and to attract more scientists who might have an open mind—and more subjects—as well.

How did Duke administrators react?

Unfortunately, his two big supporters, William McDougall, the head of the psychology department who lured him to Duke, and Few died not long after the lab opened. So for the rest of his career, he was always on shaky territory. Every time Duke got a new president, they had to make the decision to keep the lab going or not; one by one, they always decided to keep it going. I guess because it brought the university a lot of publicity and, ultimately, a lot of money.

Where did Rhine and his fellow researchers get their research funding?

They got money from Alfred P. Sloan and Chester Carlson, who was the inventor of the Xerox process. The Office of Naval Research gave them money; the Army, at one point, conducted a test with them; the Rockefeller Foundation; and the list goes on. He was very well funded but mostly from the outside. Duke paid his salary and his assistant’s salary and gave them space—desks and stuff like that. It was its own independent lab, and Rhine reported directly to the president.

Where is this kind of work done now?

The lab closed in 1965 when Rhine retired. There was a period where Duke was considering keeping the lab going, and administrators were in talks with Rhine about how that would happen and what it would look like. I found the administration’s initial idea of what it would look like, and I loved it. It was going to be a much more multidisciplinary operation involving representatives from all the different academic disciplines within Duke: people from the hard sciences, psychology, religion, and philosophy. They were going to put people with different expertise to work on the problem.

But Rhine was afraid that if that happened, parapsychology, and the people with expertise in parapsychology, would just be subsumed by all the others and eventually kind of shoved away. And he was actually right. I found memos between certain administrators who basically said that was what was going to happen. And then they started to talk to other professors who were even more adamant; they were like, “No! No! No! This is our chance to get rid of parapsychology once and for all.”

So a couple of years before he retired, Rhine set up the Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, and when he retired, he moved over there. It exists today, near West Campus, and is now called the Rhine Research Center.

How would you sum up Rhine’s work?

Rhine—and I would include his wife, Louisa, who was equally critical to all this research, too—refined the controls and the statistical methods for analyzing their results in a way that nobody had before. I went through all the various objections, the critics over the years who accused them of fraud or making mistakes with the math, and I examined all these claims and found that they had no basis.

You might want to come up with other explanations for these effects, but you can’t say they are the result of sloppy controls, fraud, or wishful thinking. Based on these experiments, there does seem to be an unidentified source of information out there. Unfortunately, we don’t know how it’s transmitted or how it’s processed, but these effects nonetheless seem to be real. We also have a lot more to learn about consciousness.

Comment: It is difficult to understand why those who want to know what human beings and the Cosmos are about would reject investigations into influences beyond the apparently material. One would not expect scientific researchers to behave like purveyors of individual institutionalised religions. The latter generally offer their certainties of what is, and what is not, based seemingly on some kind of revelation, but not research.

The observational writings of Ray DeBiase cover a wide subject area and are a pleasure to read. It was difficult to ascertain therefore a suitable introductory quotation to his work

 

Imaging your standing on a balcony overlooking the ocean. You can see individual waves on the surface and you can note their position at any point in time. You can tell they have momentum by the way they crash against the shore. Now it occurs to you that while an individual wave moves towards shore, it follows a relatively straight line and remains in tack as if it had an existence of its own. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to describe it as a particle, you could call it a surfiton. It would behave the same way an electron does when it goes through a double slit, so it should be possible to develop a set of mathematical laws to describe its behavior. The main problem with this model is that as you move closer and closer to the surfiton, it will be hard to tell where its borders are, and if you look closely enough, eventually you’ll just be soaking your head.
